Welsh born, Haydn John, is a modern day glass artist. A course in lead lighting 25 years ago led to an interest in studio glass. In the mid 90’s, Haydn completed a 4 year honours degree at Monash University, majoring in Glass, Art and Design.
As part of his course, he experimented with cast lead crystal to create his unique ‘Tools in Glass’ sculptures. These are sought after by glass collectors and people in the construction industry for display in foyers and boardrooms.
Haydn’s expertise in glass covers all areas including blown glass, specialist lead lighting, slumped and fused glass pieces, kiln carving for shop signs, sandblasting on glass for corporate or special occasion gifts.
His work is both artistic and functional, as can be seen in his glass garden sculptures, water features, glass panels and slumped and fused pieces.
Haydn regularly conducts workshops, and commissions make up a significant part of his work.
He also carries out restoration and reproduction work, including windows and panels for churches, homes and corporate buildings.
What began as a hobby has now become a full time career for Haydn and his work is in great demand. He has traveled interstate and overseas with his work and has exhibited his glass designs locally.
